I read this latest buzz from the WordPress Blog:

I’m happy to announce that version 2.6 of WordPress.org is now available, almost a month ahead schedule. Version 2.6 “Tyner,” named for jazz pianist McCoy Tyner, contains a number of new features that make WordPress a more powerful CMS: you can now track changes to every post and page and easily post from wherever you are on the web, plus there are dozens of incremental improvements to the features introduced in version 2.5.

As always, I will have to wait for the Fantastico automatic upgrade before I update my version. I’ve done the manual upgrade once but I’m not sure if I can do it again.

Finally on the leader board of the Busby SEO Challenge

Finally, after almost a month after signing into the Busby SEO Challenge, I made it to the leaderboard. In layman’s term, I made it to top 100 of the contest, in fact I ranked 94 overall.


One thing I noticed though, my entry was crossed out & was “not assigned”, I need to check with the contest organizers regarding this matter. For now, I need to work just as much to improve my current standing.

Busby SEO Challenge Traffic Stats

This blog has been in existence for about 2 years now, I’ve been learning the ins & outs of the SEO world since the blockbuster Ituloy AngSulong Philippine SEO Challenge. The problem with me is the procrastination, I can’t seem to find time mastering the art of Search Engine Optimization.

My current traffic stats is bad compared to six months ago when I was managing my blog well enough, my current average is less than 50% of my wost day in February 2008. But nothing to worry about, I’m slowly getting visit & page views nowadays.

I was surprised by my Google Page Rank

I didn’t notice it first but I was really surprised about my current Google Page Rank, I dropped drastically to zero (0)! It was three (3) the last time I checked it, or should I say I noticed it. Hmmm… When was that? I think that was before my short hiatus & before joining the Busby SEO Challenge.

I read it somewhere that Google revised it’s algorithm, I heard some stories that there were slight drop on their page rank. I for sure knew what’s wrong with my blog, it lacks quality links. I avoided x-links since I knew that this can easily be tracked by the robots.

With this kind of page rank, the chance of getting to the first page of the Busby SEO Challenge is very slim, not only that, this might also drive away advertisers.

This simply means that I need to work harder on improving my page ranking.

Google AdSense Referrals programme is being retired

I got this e-mail from Google AdSense yesterday.

Thank you for participating in the AdSense Referrals programme. We will be retiring the AdSense Referrals programme during the last week of August. After that time, AdSense Referrals code will no
longer display ads.

If you currently use referrals, either to promote Google products or offerings from AdWords advertisers, we encourage that you take the following steps before the product is retired:

* Remove all referral code from your site(s): Please take a moment to remove all referral code from your sites before the last week of August, so that you can continue to effectively monetise your ad space.
* Replace your referral ads with AdSense for content ads: If you have less than three AdSense for content ad units on a page, we recommend replacing referral ad units with standard AFC ad units. This will minimise the risk of decreased AdSense earnings when the Referrals programme is retired.
* Run and save all referrals reports to your desktop: All Referrals reports will no longer be available at the end of October.

I’m still wondering how it will affect my Google revenue, I don’t believe it will have a great effect since most of my revenues are coming either coming from AdSense for Contents & AdSense for Search.

I check the latest leaderboard of the Busby SEO Challenge, it was dated 18th June 2008 & showing Google’s top 100 results on the keyword “Busby SEO Challenge.”

I checked my actual placing on the keyword Busby SEO Challenge on Google using the rank checker plug-in & I’m the 167th place, not bad for the first 4 days of participation.

I’ll be updating you regarding the Busby SEO Challenge as the contest progresses.

Busby SEO Challenge

The newest SEO challenge opened last June 1, 2008, the aim is to optimize the keyword “Busby SEO Challenge” on Google.

PRIZES

• First prize: $5,000
• Second prize: $2,000
• Third prize: $500

THE RULES

• Start date is 1st June 2008, 12:00midday, Perth, Western Australia at which point the phrase will be posted on the Busby website.
• End date of 31st August 2008, 12:00 midday, Perth, Western Australia.
• Only ethical SEO techniques may be engaged and the judges reserve the right to review the techniques engaged by the winner to ensure they comply.
• No pornography, no discrimination and no illegal behaviour is permitted.
• The competition is only open to domain and sub domain names that do not include the key phrase in any form
• Only registered entrants are eligible to compete and win the prize. Busby will maintain a list of entrants which can be view on the Entrants List page.
• Registration is free, open to anyone of any age, gender, race and domicile and can only be made through Registration Process.
