Dubbed as the Publisher, Mr. WordPress, Matt Mullenweg was named as one of The 25 Most Influential People on the Web by the BusinessWeek.

As the importance of social media expands, so does the influence of WordPress, the blogging service that most serious bloggers turn to. And though blogging might seem well established, WordPress just keeps on growing. Open source software is part of the reason for WordPress’ success. When Mullenweg started blogging in 2001, he used open source software to develop his own Web tools, which became WordPress. Traffic to WordPress’ service more than doubled during the last year to 103 million global visitors, compared with main rival Typepad’s 20 million.

Twenty nine (29) blogs signed up in the Pinoy Blog Directory for the month of September 2008. There are sign-ups that still on hold since they don’t fit the blog category.

Page Rank Update soon?

It was 3 months ago when I noticed a sudden (drastic) drop on my Google page rank, from PR3, it dropped to PR0. It was so frustrating, I’ve worked so hard (and not to mention, got my link backs doing what Google subscribed to) to be on that position.

This blog is not the only one affected by July’s page rank update, my personal blog dropped from PR3 to PR0 while my wedding photography blog from PR4 to PR2. From what I’ve read, Google has changed its algorithm and has affected a lot of site’s nominal page ranks.

A clue of a new page rank update came from Matt Cutts himself, it looks like September will be it, good luck to my page rank.

Friendster blog 2.0 is now powered by WordPress

The social networking site Friendster is currently migrating its blog into the WordPress environment, a welcome move from the most established social networking site.

There are currently 20 themes available to choose from, it’s not customizable but it’s widget ready, in addition, plugins can be uploaded (don’t ask me how, I have yet to explore it) to further enhance the blogs capability.

Why limit the directory for blogs only?

Maintaining a web directory is not an easy task, well maybe for me, the reason is that I wanna preserve the integrity of each submissions to the directory. This is the same reason why I scrutinize and verify each and every blogs that is being submitted to my directory.

I’m now contemplating on offering it not exclusively for Pinoy Blogs but also for Pinoy Websites, with its current page rank (PR 3), I know a lot of website will be interest in listing. Well then again, it’s still the planning stage, whatever will be my decision, I’ll just post it here.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Canon announced the release of the new 21 megapixels Canon 5D Mark II, this model will likely to replace the old 5D full frame DSLR. The new DSLR body has the following key specifications:

New 21.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor with improved EOS Integrated Cleaning System (E.I.C.S.)
New Full HD 1080 resolution movie recording
3.9 frames per second continuous shooting
3.0” VGA (920k dots) Clear View LCD
ISO 100-6400 (expansion from 50 up to 25,600)
9 AF points + 6 Assist AF points

The 21.1 MP is impressive, but the 3.9 fps is not, that’s not much improvement from the 3fps of the old 5D. It has improved the video feature that was introduced by Nikon on it’s D90 model, although the full HD video on a DSLR is so overwhelming, I still don’t think it really belong there.

The Canon 5D Mark II will sell at $2,699.

Anticipating WordPress 2.7

Matt Mullenweg talked about the “State of the Word” at the WordPress WordCamp Philippines, it was all about the past, present and future state of the WordPress blogging engine. For the first time, he showed the interface of the upcoming WordPress version, the 2.7 version which will be available in November.

One noticeable about this upcoming version is it’s interface, it’s fully customizable and the main navigational tab was transferred was placed on the side.

WordPress 2.7 is still under development and testing, incidentally, a survey on Navigational Options is currently being conducted.

Captivating Capiz: A mini SEO Challenge

The Cebu Pacific Blogging Challenge

Just before the conclusion of the first WordPress WordCamp Philippines, Ria Jose announced that Cebu Pacific will be sponsoring a blogging contest.

In a nutshell, a blogger must write a post about his/her dream destination that is at least 200 words long and once selected, he/she will win a round trip ticket to his/her dream destination. Cool huh?!
