It Pays to Back-up

I find my old blog theme to be slow loading so last night, I decided to change its theme to a lightweight theme to optimize its loading speed. But when I opened the site, this error welcomed me:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 60525 bytes) in /home/masterb/public_html/seo/wp-includes/widgets.php on line 1152

I encountered the same problem some years back and honestly I forgot how to repair the problem, so I googled for any possible countermeasure. All fingers (or should I say results) are pointing to php.ini file that I need to edit and I can’t find any in my hosting space.

Frustrated, I reinstalled WordPress without even securing a back-up of the mysql database, in short I lost the 3 years of blog entries! Worst, reinstalling WordPress didn’t do anything to solve the problem, so I e-mailed the hosting company and luckily the problem was solved.

Now, the problem is my previous entries, I searched in my harddisk for any back-up and found one, it was my February 2008 back-up. That’s all that is available, I immediately restored what is available, I’m now in the process of re-writing the lost entries and by the looks of it, it’s gonna be a hell of a work ahead.

It really is worth having a back-up!
